Geriatrics and End of Life Care
The global End of Life Care market size was valued at USD 718 billion in 2015 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 6% over the forecast period. The long term care market is expected to boom owing to the aging baby boomers, increasing disabilities, the dearth of skilled nursing staff, government funding, and increased collaborations of private insurers with the government. Long term care (LTC) can range from a low level of care including cleaning and shopping support to high intensity care for older adults within care homes. The key trend is that the demand for care will continue to increase because of increasing life expectancy and ageing. The number of care homes within residential settings, both in public and private has increased over the last few years. It is expected that the number of care homes will increase further in the future as a result of increasing demand. As a consequence, older adults will have greater choice and control of their care and services. The hospice care segment is the fastest growing segment with a CAGR of 7.6%. End-of-life care attends not just to the physical but also the psychosocial and spiritual concerns of patients and their families, and extends into the bereavement period.
