Ageing Technology and Management

Interest in technology for older adults is driven by multiple converging trends: The rapid pace of technological development; the unprecedented growth of the aging population in the United States and worldwide; the increase in the number and survival of persons with disability; the growing and unsustainable costs of caring for the elderly people; and the increasing interest on the part of business, industry, and government agencies in addressing health care needs with technology. These trends have contributed to the strong conviction that technology can play an important role in enhancing quality of life and independence of older individuals with high levels of efficiency, potentially reducing individual and societal costs of caring for the elderly people. The U.S. market for assistive technologies for people over 65 is projected to grow from nearly $6.2 billion in 2015 to almost $8 billion in 2020. As a percentage of the total market, seniors are expected to constitute 36.8% of the total assistive technologies market in 2020.One of the strongest growths is in medical/personal monitoring aids (including home safety products), which follows the trend of retrofitting homes to ensure extended aging-in-place. Ageing Technology and Management is used to assist older individuals in maintaining, safety, independence, health/wellness, social connections, and support systems. The goal is to remain active, self-determined, and ageing-in-place with a little help from technology. Be updated by following Aging Conferences.
